BACK LOT MUSIC PRESENTS
THE BOXTROLLS ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK

Featuring Original Music by Academy Award®-Winning Composer Dario Marianelli
and an Original Song with Words & Music by Comedy Icon Eric Idle

(September 16, 2014– Los Angeles, CA) – Back Lot Music will release The Boxtrolls – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD September 23, 2014. The album features an original score for the Focus Features and LAIKA family event movie by Academy Award®-winning composer Dario Marianelli (Atonement) and an original song by Eric Idle (of Monty Python fame), plus classic songs performed by the group Loch Lomond.

The Boxtrolls is the first animated feature that Oscar® winner Dario Marianelli has scored, and he began his work notably early in the production process.

“That was a huge benefit for us,” said The Boxtrolls co-director Graham Annable. “Dario started work when most of the movie was still in the storyboard phase, and he was able to ask for a few more seconds here and there to let his score breathe – and truly support key moments in the movie. Later, he would also adapt the waltz that he wrote to fit finished shots.”

LAKESHORE RECORDS PRESENTS
WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK

Featuring Original Music By Robin Guthrie and Harold Budd

(September 16, 2014– Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 23, 2014.  The album features original music by Robin Guthrie (KABOOM, MYSTERIOUS SKIN, the band Cocteau Twins) and Harold Budd (MYSTERIOUS SKIN, Brian Eno, David Sylvian).

“Gregg Araki [WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD director] has always been a big fan,” said Guthrie, “having used our music in many of his earlier films. He first approached us to fully score a movie in 2004 with MYSTERIOUS SKIN – just his way of getting a few of his favorite artists together.”

“Robin Guthrie and Harold Budd have been idols of mine since the glory days of the late 80s – which is, not just coincidentally, the period when WHITE BIRD takes place,” said Araki.  “The score they’ve created for this film – like the music they did for MYSTERIOUS SKIN – is so heartbreakingly gorgeous, it is the movie’s heart and soul. I couldn’t be more thrilled about the release of this record!”

Robin Guthrie first made his name as the founding member of the Cocteau Twins. He continues to release solo albums and EPs, while contributing both original music and his songs to many films including KABOOM, 3:19, and THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER, STEALING BEAUTY, THE LOVELY BONES and 27 DRESSES.

Harold Budd, legendary avant garde composer and poet, had come out of his brief 2004 musical retirement to work with Guthrie on the soundtrack for MYSTERIOUS SKIN and on three studio albums, After the Night Falls, Before the Day Breaks and Bordeaux as well as occasional live performances. He continues to work both as a composer and, in the studio, as a recording artist.

“One of the major characters in the film is the music,” said the film’s director William H. Macy.  “Josh’s songs are all Sam has left of his son, and as the script developed, six of those songs became set pieces in the film. I knew that if those songs weren’t good, the film would never recover.  Simon Steadman and Charlton Pettus wrote the songs ”Home” and “Real Friends,” among others, to give Josh his voice.”

VARÈSE SARABANDE RECORDS TO RELEASE THE EQUALIZER SOUNDTRACK

Featuring Original Music By Harry Gregson-Williams

(September 10, 2014– Los Angeles, CA) – Varèse Sarabande Records will release THE EQUALIZER – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD September 23, 2014. The soundtrack features the original score composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. THE EQUALIZER opens in theaters on September 26, 2014.

“Because the director Antoine Fuqua, wanted the action to be believable, the score had to be rooted in reality,” explained Gregson-Williams. “We couldn’t have French horns announcing this character as if he were some super hero. Consequently, there’s quite a dark tinge to his theme, and I learned quite early on that to bring real darkness to any given scene, it’s necessary to have a little ray of light somewhere in order to contrast the colors. I took a two-pronged attack with the protagonist’s music – one avenue followed his action, which was bold, strong, and noisy, while the other was quite sensitive and introspective.”

POSTMAN PAT: THE MOVIE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK ALBUM

Featuring Original Score By Rupert Gregson-Williams

(September 8, 2014– Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the POSTMAN PAT: THE MOVIE – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album digitally on September 23rd and on CD October 21, 2014.  The album features original score by Rupert Gregson-Williams (HOTEL RWANDA, WINTER’S TALE).

“I started the movie with a very simple rendition of the TV theme tune, and built it up taking us through to a new broad and orchestral theme by the time we met our heroes, Pat and Jess,” said Gregson-Williams. “I used this new theme for Pat throughout the movie. We found a theme for our baddy - there has to be a baddy in any good story - we had fun with that. It is in its boldest form in the track ‘Megolamaniac.’”

NO GOOD DEED –
ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK FROM SCREEN GEMS, COMPOSED BY PAUL HASLINGER
TO RELEASE ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2014

LOS ANGELES, CA – September 8, 2014 – Madison Gate Records will issue a digital and physical release of the soundtrack for No Good Deed, the new thriller from Screen Gems onTuesday September 9th. The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features new music by Paul Haslinger. Screen Gems will release No Good Deed on September 12, 2014.

"No Good Deed offered a great opportunity to re-explore a style of score I had first developed for the film Vacancy (also Screen Gems, 2007): music designed to enhance psychological qualities in the telling of a story, in this case, a rather dark one,” Haslinger comments. “My personal preference for this kind of approach, is to mix classic film noir elements with music/sound-design elements, sometimes alternating, sometimes superimposing them. The goal ultimately was to connect the headspace of the characters with that of the audience, to make the audience feel the threads of the story as they watch it unfold. Working off great performances by Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson, this was a unique and rewarding project to be involved with!”
